with breaking news out of the olympics. the guardian newspaper reporting that a british team member was held up a gunpoint while out on the town in rio. the paper does not name the team member - but this comes during the controversy surrounding ports that u.s. swimmers were robbed a gunpoint. among them rockville's jack conger. brazilian authorities pulled him and and swimmer gunnar bentz off their flight home. the two were with teammates ryan lochte and jimmy feigen when they said a man robbed them at gunpoint. a brazilian judge now doubts what happened, saying the two told police different stories. lochte has already returned to the u-s. feigen is believed to still be in brazil, possibly in police custody. we will be staying on top of this all morning. breaking news just coming in.. a shooting now a homicide in prince george's county. the update - next and the clouds clear this morning - but another chance for wet

we'll update you as we learn more. right now in southern california an army of firefighters doing everything they can to stop the spread of a fast moving wildfire raging out of control. some 82-thousand people remain under evacuation orders as the blue cut fire speads by the minute. it's already engulfed 40 square miles of land. crews right now have their work cut of for them battling the blaze on the ground and by air with water drops. many in state say they have never seen anything like it. meanwhile, residents in the northern part of the state breathing a sigh of relief as the clayton fire starts to fade. thousands now being allowed to return home with the fire now 5-0 percent contained. 268 strutures were wiped out, including 175 homes. a shocking new look at the scope of the opioid epidemic in west virginia. on m

overdoses in a span of just four hours in the city of huntington. this morning - police are warning about a particularly dangerous batch of heroin. they believe it was laced with a strong substance - but so far they don't know what that is. the investigation comes as the white house announces it will spend 17 million dollars to help police across the country fight heroin and opiod abuse. an emotional tribute to the son of the late d.c. mayor and councilman, marion barry.. a vigil was held last night for christopher barry. he died sunday, after an overdose. he was 36-years-old. the vigil was held outside wilson high school in northwest d.c. christopher barry was a member of the school's class of 1998. carl thomas remembers helping christopher barry with his campaign for his father's ward eight council seat. thomas says even though christopher didn't win, he was passion

an update to that heartbreaking story out of baltimore. the mother who made national headlines for yanking her son away from last years riots is now fighting to find a new home. that same son accidentally burned their home down after their kitchen caught fire while he was cooking chicken tenders. but now toya is getting help from neighbors, friends and complete strangers to find her a new home. her go fund me page has raised over 53 thousand dollars and counting.. graham says the family is homeless..no place to go while repairs are made at the home she rented...and there's no word from the landlord

homeland security secretary jey johnson will visit louisiana today.. to review the federal government's response. more than 40-thousand homes are damaged. about six-thousand people remain in shelters. residents in 20 parishes are eligible for federal disaster assistance. developing now.. the federal government is stripping more than six-million dollars in funding from prince george's county's head start program. and it's all because of alleged misconduct. officials say in once incident, a teacher forced a three-year-old to mop up urine. in another incident, children were allegedly forced to hold heavy boxes over their heads as punishment. county executive rushern baker says he's assigned members of his staff to resolve the matter, and restore funding. despite the termination of the grant, the head

september 16th. a big development this morning out of silver spring. the n-t-s-b is taking over the investigation into that deadly apartment building explosion that rocked the community. at least 7 people were killed, dozens of others killed. natural has pipeline investigators will take the lead role to determine what went wrong. for seven days, rescue workers have combed through the debris. authorities appeared to have ruled out that the explosion was intentionally set. this morning - a push for safety from the n-t-s-b as your kids head back to school. the agency is holding a back to school event with the montgomery county police and fire departments. parents and kids will learn how to safe on the school bus, while walking and biking to school and there will be information about child safety seats. the event starts at 10 a-m at fitzgerald auto mall in rockville. and speaking of going back to class - today is the first day of school for students in jefferson and hampshire counties, in west virginia. we want to see all your first day pictures! upload your photos of the kiddies to burst dot com slash wjl
